CHAIRMAN’S SPEECH AT 2ND IT SUMMIT

THE NIGERIA COMPUTER SOCIETY (NCS), OYO STATE CHAPTER CHAIRMAN’S SPEECH AT THE 2026 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) SUMMIT

To God Almighty be all the glory for witnessing yet another IT Summit in 2026!

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Oyo State Chapter, has grown in leaps and bounds since the inception of this administration two years ago. Membership has increased significantly, visibility is wider, and student involvement in the NCS has become more engaging. A landmark event was the induction of 266 students from the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, into graduate membership of the NCS on 2nd April 2026.

Recently, a well-meaning individual and former National President of the NCS, Sir Dr. Ademola Aladekomo (FNCS), graciously donated a plot of land to the Chapter for its Secretariat at Hazana/Tech City Estate, along the Ibadan–Oyo Road, Ibadan.

Today, I can boldly say that our Chapter boasts distinguished members, including the first African female Professor of Computer Science and former first female President of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), Prof. Emeritus Adenike O. Osofisan (FNCS). We also have two Vice Chancellors: Professor Olumide Babatope Longe (FNCS), Vice Chancellor of West Midland University, Ikeja, Lagos State, who coincidentally supervised my Master’s degree at the Department of Computer Science, University of Ibadan; and Prof. Adebisi A. Baale (FNCS), Vice Chancellor of Westland University, Iwo, Osun State.

We are also honoured to have many Deans of Computing Sciences, such as Prof. Adesesan B. Adeyemo (UI), Prof. Abigail Adetunji (LAUTECH), and Prof. Ademola Adesina (KDU), as well as several Professors and PhD holders in Computer Science too numerous to mention. From the corporate and industry sector, we have Engr. Wole Agbaje (Chairman, Idea Konsult Ltd), Dr. Abdulganiyu Adebayo (Director of Finance, UPL PLC), Dr. Olusola Ayoola (MD, RAIN), and Dr. Aderinto C. Adeyemi (SQI), to mention a few.

Now, to the crux of the matter and the thought-provoking theme for this year’s Summit. I thank my Executive members for agreeing to the theme I proposed. The alarming rise in insurgency, insecurity, abduction, and kidnappings, and the palpable fear among citizens, informed my choice of this year’s theme. A case in point is the recent abduction at Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, and Yawota Baptist High School in Oriire LGA, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, where about 46 people were abducted and remain in captivity. This repeated occurrence calls for immediate action from all of us.

As a responsive and responsible society, we cannot afford to look away from the present plight of our nation. Hence, I issue a clarion call to all three tiers of government, stakeholders, policymakers, security outfits and agencies, scholars, tech founders, and students present at this Summit to come together and forge a way out of this menace.

I am full of hope. With the calibre of experts gathered here today, including Prof. Kayode Odebode Adebowale (FAS), Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, security experts, and tech founders. I am optimistic that through scholarly lectures, discourse, and deliberations, we will forge meaningful solutions to address insurgency in Ibadan, Oyo State, and Nigeria as a whole.

In conclusion, I appreciate the Dominican University Management, ably led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Jacinta A. Opara, for graciously providing this hall free of charge and the serene university environment for the Summit. I also deeply appreciate all our supporters, collaborators, and sponsors. I must not forget to thank the IT Summit Committee members who worked tirelessly, day and night, under the able leadership of Prof. Olatunde Olabiyisi (FNCS).

Thank you all.

BAMGBADE, BABATUNDE JOSEPH (MNCS, MCPN, LFAN, JP)
